Aligarh returns to normalcy, AMU students union demands high level probe
Aligarh, Feb 26 (Indianmuslims.info) The city has come back to the state of normalcy and the situation is under perfect control, police sources said here Sunday.
In a memorandum sent to President APJ Abul Kalam, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, Aligarh Muslim University Students Union president Nafees Ahmad termed the Saturday incident ‘sad’ and appealed to the students to maintain peace.
Claiming that there were some ‘outsiders’ rather than students of the university involved in the incident, the student leader sought a high level judicial enquiry into the incident by a high court judge.
Senior Superintendent of Police Akhil Kumar informed the presspersons that they have recommended suspension of the concerned SHO for his negligence of duty in preventing the violence. He also clarified that the persons involved in the arson and violence were some bad elements rather than students, and that they will be identified and subjected to due action against them.
The students’ memorandum demands action against the police personnel who it said collect a fixed amount from property dealers and builders in return of protecting them from the clutches of law, against property dealer Shahzad, his brother and workers for their involvement in the incident, and also against the Rapid Action Force personnel who entered the hostel rooms without any written permission from Vice-Chancellor or Proctor and beat some of the students.
The memorandum also demands deployment of secular-minded police officials to the Civil Lines Police Station near the university.
