Jamiat Ulama hails HC verdict on beard
New Delhi, Jan 18 (Indianmuslims.info) Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has welcomed the Chandigarh High Court verdict reinstating Haryana policeman Satyapal Khan, who had been dismissed for wearing beard.
The Jamiat general secretary Maulana Mahmood Madani, in a statement released here Wednesday, termed the verdict as ‘victory of justice and religious freedom’ as sporting beard is a religious injunction for Muslims.
“Dismissing an employee from his services due only to his sporting beard is violation of religious freedom guaranteed in the Constitution, Mr. Madani remarked.
Haryana police had dismissed Satyapal Khan for sporting beard on April 28, 2005.
