New York, March 6 (IANS) Oscar winning actor George Clooney is lending his support to Illinois Senator and Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

Clooney said that Obama is "the true rock star" of the Democratic party, reports newsweek.com.

He added: "I've never been around anybody who walks into a room and everyone just stops and listens to him. He's magnetic and charismatic in a way that we haven't had for a long time. I would certainly go out and fundraise for him."

Obama's major contender as of now seems to be Senator Hillary Clinton, wife of former president Bill Clinton.
