CID admits direct police hand in Khawaja Yunus custodial killing
Mumbai, March 9 (Indianmuslims.info) The CID team investigating the Khawaja Yunus case admitted direct involvement of Mumbai Police sub-inspector and ‘encounter specialist’ Sachin Vaze in the custodial death of an accused in the Ghatkopar bomb blast case, reports said here Thursday.
According the police story, Khawaja Yunus had escaped from police custody on January 6 while he was being transported towards Parbhani for further interrogations. He was supposed to be in hand-cuffs.
Khawaja Yunus’ parents termed the police version to be ‘unbelievable’ and ‘concocted’. They countered that their son never escaped from police custody but was tortured to death while in police custody. High Court had handed over the investigation of this case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), who while presenting their report to the DGP Dr. P. S. Pasricha, for first time charged the police officer Sachin Vaze for murder as he was the last official who held the custody of Khawaja Yunus.
The investigating agency has requested permission from DGP for filing cases against Sachin Vaze and three other co-accused.
Now it is for the Director General of Police to decide whether to accept CID report and grant permission for filing of the cases against police officials or not. Pasricha himself has been under strong pressure.
Earlier High Court castigated the CID for prolonging the investigation and had asked them to submit their report within one month, if possible.
Pasricha admitted that he received the CID report on March 6 and said he will need one-week’s time to take a decision over the matter, which then will be forwarded to the Home Ministry.
