Repression against Mapuche communities
Santiago De Chile, March 23 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) The violent and repressive actions of the Chilean government against Mapuche communities and its leaders were denounced by the Chilean Communist Party (PCCh) and the Mapuche Leftwing Assembly (AMI) on Thursday.
Both Chilean organisation’s gave the local Ministry of Interior a letter expressing their concern for the attitude of carabineers and prosecutors regarding the demonstrations by indigenous people for their vindication.
The letter said the public image of a people has been established as violent, extremist and even terrorist, hiding the real problems these communities have.
Signed by PCCh leaders like Guillermo Teillier, Manuel Hernandez and Claudia Pascual, and AMI leaders Israel Ayllapan and Ximena Cumican, the letter is opposed to what President Michelle Bachelet said when she expressed her disposition to take steps to solve the situation during her presidential campaign.
It stated the right for a generalized policy of actions against Mapuche leaders and communities, and exhorted urgently to end with it.
