Kamleshwar's short stories now in English
New Delhi, March 24 (IANS) Renowned Hindi author Kamleshwar's collection of short stories, including his acclaimed "Kitne Pakistan?" (How many Pakistans), can now be read in its English rendering titled "Not Flowers of Henna".
The English translation was released Friday by well-known Hindi author Krishna Sobti at a function in the India Habitat Centre here. Katha, a non-profit organisation devoted to publishing, had organised the event in memory of the late author.
Krishna Sobti handed the first copy to translator Jai Ratan.
"Not Flowers of Henna", a collection of 15 short stories, dwells on subjects such as prostitution, politics, love, marital discord, pride and passion.
"Kamleshwar's writings have always depicted a society in flux and have built on the fundamental verities of life such as circumstances and human affections," said Katha managing editor Rizio Yohannan Raj.
Katha's assistant editor Minakshi Thakur read excerpts from the book.
Kamleshwar received Padma Bhushan - one of India's civil decorations in 2005. He has written satires on political, religious and ideological issues.
