Chennai customs summon Air France officials
Chennai, March 24 (IANS) Customs and immigration officials here Saturday sent summons to authorities of Air France for allegedly allowing two Indian passengers to board a Chennai-Paris Air France plane without obtaining due immigration check at Chennai airport.
The passengers, both Indians, boarded the flight using fake seals of immigration department and fake passports, say local immigration authorities. The duo bypassed the immigration officials and then boarded the flight.
The two men were travelling in the names of Ahmad Maroof Ahmad Amin from Thanjavur and Kiran Kumar from Vishakapatnam.
The Air France Flight 201 was flying from Chennai to France and then to London, and it allegedly took off without the mandatory customs and immigration clearance.
A relevant notice has been issued to the manager of Air France here, Suresh Antony, who is a duty officer and a flight commander.
As per rules, station managers of all the international flights must obtain signature from immigration and customs authorities.
The flight reportedly took off around 3.20 a.m. Friday without getting the signatures in these three documents from the immigration and customs authorities.
Sources said the Indian authorities had alerted their French counterparts soon after the incident was detected and the two passengers have been detained in Paris by French authorities.
