Cricket betting racket busted in Delhi
New Delhi, March 24 (IANS) Two people were arrested for allegedly running a cricket betting racket from their car in the national capital, police said Saturday.
The accused Vikrant Gupta and his accomplice Anil Garg were arrested from Wazirpur area in northwest Delhi Friday while they were betting on the match between India Sri Lanka in the World Cup.
"Acting on a secret tip-off, a police constable was sent in plain clothes to strike a deal with the duo. He fixed the deal and made signal to the waiting police party, who then apprehend them," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Neeraj Thakur said.
"On interrogation, the duo revealed that they belong to wealthy families in the city and were running this racket since the start of World Cup in the West Indies," he added.
Police have recovered one Santro Xing car, three mobile phones with advanced recording system, an LCD TV screen, a calculator, ledger Books and betting slips from their possession.
