In Kerala, police vehicles are used for wedding

Kochi, March 24 (IANS) About a dozen police vehicles are being used in the city to carry guests who are here to take part in the marriage ceremony of a top state police officer's daughter.

For quite some time, police in Kerala have been finding it difficult to maintain their large number of vehicles due to paucity of funds.

A local TV channel ran the footage of police vehicles carrying guests of Inspector General of Police Venugopal K. Nair, currently on deputation at the Sail Authority of India Limited office in New Delhi.

The guests arrived from Delhi to take part in the marriage ceremony of Nair's daughter scheduled Sunday.

The channel also claimed that while a police vehicle was sent to Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, about 300 km from here, to bring flowers for the wedding, another vehicle transported guests to Munnar, a hill station in the state.

When asked about the misuse of the police vehicles, Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told reporters here that he would certainly look into the matter.

"I am not aware of it but as it has been brought this to my notice, I will certainly inquire," said Balakrishnan.
