Indian states bordering bird flu affected countries on vigil
New Delhi, March 24(IRNA) Indian states bordering Bangladesh, Myanmar and Pakistan have been put on vigil following outbreak of bird flu in these countries.
India continues to be free from the Avian Influenza virus as of now. Bangladesh Friday confirmed the outbreak of bird flu
in Savar area and culled thousands of birds in several farms.
According to an All India Radio (AIR) report, Bangladeshi Agriculture Adviser C S Karim told media persons that over 33,000 poultry have been culled and buried in six farms.
Army troops were also deployed to assist the local police to carry out intensive monitoring to check bird flu. Health checks of people at affected areas are going on.
In early February, Pakistan reported bird flu outbreak and later did Myanmar.
An official release in New Delhi said the situation was assessed at a high level meeting on Thursday. The meeting decided to put states bordering Myanmar, Pakistan and Bangladesh on alert.
The animal Husbandry Department has advised these states to intensify surveillance measures. The centre has already stockpiled adequate quantities of medicine and equipment for handling any outbreak.
