Dhoni fans cut mane to boo fallen hero

Ranchi, March 27 (IANS) Mahendra Singh Dhoni's fans are expressing their disappointment with his dismal performance at the World Cup by cutting off their hair, which they had kept long like the stylish wicketkeeper.

"I opted to cut my hair after Dhoni failed to perform in the World Cup. It is now disgraceful to sport his style. I grew my hair after (Pakistan President) Pervez Musaraff had praised Dhoni's hair and advised him not to cut his hair," cricket lover Chandan Kumar told IANS.

Mahesh Mishra, a student, said: "After the shameful defeat of India in the World Cup, the first thing I did was to go for a haircut. I had grown my hair like Dhoni because he ruled the hearts of everyone with his good performance. I never felt bad when people commented about my long hair. Now I feel humiliated."

"Any player can perform poorly in one match, but Dhoni scored zero in two crucial matches against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka," added Sandeep Chatterjee.

These former fans of Dhoni, who is a resident of Ranchi, are waiting for his return.

"The Pakistani players were welcomed with tomatoes and eggs and we are also storing eggs and tomatoes. If we get a chance, we will welcome Dhoni in the same fashion," said Ramesh Gupta, still angry over India's loss to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka that sent them packing out of the World Cup.

When Dhoni failed to score a single run against Bangladesh, furious fans had attacked his house under construction in the Harmu Housing colony here. Security at Dhoni's house was beefed up after India crashed out of the World Cup.
