British firms in partnership to deal with wastes in Nairobi, Mombasa
Nairobi, March 29 (NNN-KBC) The waste disposal menace in Nairobi and Mombasa cities will soon be a thing of the past after five private British companies agreed to a partnership with the city council and local companies in waste and water management.
A delegation led by the head of UK Trade and investment Douglas Barnes is in Kenya to identify local potential partners in waste management.
Barnes who led a delegation to tour the Dandora dumpsite here Wednesday said the delegation aimed to share new technologies and experiences with local companies, depending on the company's policies.
The British delegation will on Saturday head to the port city of Mombasa to tour the Kimbalani dump site, which has been a threat to local residents.
The Dandora dumpsite has also been a threat to Nairobi residents, posing health dangers.
The delegation said that a lot of resources from the site are wasted and hence the need for partnership.
Lands Minister Kivutha Kibwana last week announced that the dumpsite would soon be relocated.
