Interference of 3rd parties makes Iran-Britain discord worse

Athens, March 31(IRNA) Iranian Embassy in Athens underlined that detention of British servicemen who violated Iran's territorial waters is an issue of bilateral concern and that it can be settled if the British officials are willing to cooperate.

The remark was part of a statement issued by the Iranian Embassy in Athens, which added that the interference of any third party in the matter will make its solution more difficult.

The statement aiming to brief the Greek public opinion said that at 10:00 am local time on March 23, 2007, 15 servicemen of British marine force trespassing Iran's waterways were taken into custody by Iranian coast guards.

"Given that violation of Iranian territorial waters by British vessels is a suspicious measure contradicting international laws and regulations as well as contrary to the international commitments of the British government, it is severely condemned by Iran.

"Meanwhile, Iran has officially protested to the United Nations against the move," it added.

It said that Iran always attempts to tackle violation of its borders with patience, self-constraint and within the framework of bilateral relations and also by avoiding hues and cries.

"However, the repeated wrong-doings of British forces despite the commitment of British officials after the arrest of Britain's military forces while violating Iran's territorial waters in June 2004 and the irrational remarks of British officials show their irresponsible goals," it added.

According to Article 30 of the International Law Commission about the international responsibility of governments is bound to avoid measures contradicting Iran's and international laws.
