30 injured over Prophet Mohammad cartoons in Bangladesh
NEW DELHI, Sept 21 (KUNA) -- Thirty people amongst thousands of extreme Islamists were injured here during a rally protesting Prophet Mohammad (PBH) cartoons published by a local newspaper.
The United News of India Agency (UNI) said that activists from the Liberation party and Islamic constitution movement gathered outside Bait Al-Makram mosque after Friday prayers shouting slogans to close Alpin newspaper, part of Prothom Alo Daily, which published offensive cartoons regarding the Messenger of Islam.
Protestors marched seven kilometers to the newspapers' officer in capital Dhaka, clashing with the police at the crossroad of Shahbag. The incident resulted in the injury of about 30 people.
The police arrest in a pervious occasion Alpin Editor-in-Chief Muti Abdul-Rahman for publishing the controversial cartoons with the editor expressing his apologies over the publication.
In accordance with emergency law, the Bangladeshi government banned all kinds of gathering in the country.
