Digvijay ready to face action in alleged land scam

Bhopal : Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijay Singh Sunday said he was prepared to face any action by the state government as an inquiry was launched into an alleged land scam involving him.

The state's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) registered a case against Singh, an All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary, and seven others Saturday, a few days after a Dewas special court, hearing a private complaint filed by Prakash Chandra Jain, directed it to investigate the matter.

According to the complaint, Subhash Gupta, a close friend of Singh, bought an industrial land through bank auction and, after allegedly converting its land use to residential in connivance with the Singh government, intended to sell it at a huge price.

Singh in a statement issued here said he would once again come clean when the investigation would be over, like what happened with the allegations raised against him in the past.

"Still I am prepared to face any action taken by the government on the basis of the EOW report," he said.

Apart from Singh and Gupta, former housing board chairman Chandra Prabhash Shekhar and then principal secretary of housing and environment U.K. Samal were also involved in the case, said Jain's counsel Manohar Dalal.

A case has also been registered against an EOW deputy superintendent of police and an inspector accusing them of giving a clean chit to the accused in the past.
