By Mumtaz Alam Falahi, TwoCircles.net

Give Urdu all official language rights: Muslim leaders

By TwoCircles.net correspondent,

Patna: Muslim leaders have demanded the Bihar government to give Urdu all rights of being state’s second official language and to establish fully the long-promised Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic, Persian University.

Ahmad Ashfaque Karim, chairman, Bihar Minority Educational Board and Katihar Medical College, and Abdul Quayum Ansari, general secretary, Bihar Minority Educational Board and secretary Anjuman Taraqui Urdu Bihar, made the demands in a joint press statement released on 7th May in the capital.

They reminded Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of his pre-election promise that he would solve all issues related to Urdu on priority basis. They alleged that no Urdu translator, instant translator and Urdu knowing computer operator have been appointed against the vacant posts in different government offices in the state.

Neither the Urdu directorate has been made powerful, nor minority cell, established on district as well as state levels, has been made operational, they alleged. The cell was meant to monitor the functioning and implementation of 15 point programmes for minorities.

The Muslim leaders alleged that the work of teaching has not been started in the Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic, Persian University so far. Neither has the government allotted 100 acres of land for buildings as promised. The government has not appointed teaching or non-teaching staff for the university either.
