Medvedev wins Russian presidential elections

Moscow : Dmitry Medvedev has won the Russian presidential elections by a landslide, according to official figures released Monday.
Medvedev secured an overwhelming victory by gaining 69.9 percent of the vote, with 86.7 percent of the ballots counted, Central Election Commission (CEC) figures indicated.

Caracas : Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has sent 10 battalions of troops to the country's border with Colombia and closed its embassy in Bogota to protest the killing of a high-ranking leftist rebel by Colombian troops inside Ecuador.

Caracas : Venezuela's president, Hugo Chavez, has ordered mobilization of the nation's armed forces to its border with Colombia and the closure of Venezuelan embassy in Colombia.
"We are at a state of alertness. I am putting Venezuela on alert and we will support Ecuador," Chavez said Sunday.

Yerevan : Eight people were killed and over 130 wounded in Armenia's capital in overnight clashes between police and protesters unhappy with recent presidential election results, police said on Sunday.
"The Prosecutor General's Office is investigating the circumstances of those people's death," police said adding they were being identified.

Seoul : The South Korean government on Sunday nominated the country's former ambassador to China, Kim Ha Joong, as its new unification minister,DPA reported.
The 61-year-old career diplomat was nominated by newly-installed conservative President Lee Myung Bak as a concession to the liberal United Democratic Party (UDP), the strongest party in parliament.
