No new bird flu cases, culling in West Bengal slows down

New Delhi : Culling operations in the avian influenza-hit West Bengal were affected due to the 24-hour shutdown Wednesday, officials here said Thursday. But no new cases of bird flu were reported in the country, they added.

New Delhi : Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss Thursday inaugurated a test tube baby centre at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here. This is country's first such centre in any government-run institution.

West Bengal begins disinfecting flu-hit areas

New Delhi : West Bengal has begun disinfecting and cleaning up areas where poultry was culled while authorities continued slaughtering more birds in avian-flu hit areas. The central government Wednesday announced a revised compensatory package for killed birds.
An estimated 3.5 million poultry birds have been slaughtered since the flu was reported in the state Jan 15.
Court asks hospitals to set up patient grievance panel

New Delhi : The Delhi High Court Wednesday directed all government hospitals to constitute a grievance redressal committee to look into all complaints from patients.
A division bench of Chief Justice M.K. Sharma and Justice Reva Khetrapal directed the hospitals to constitute the committee within four weeks' time.
West Bengal seeks central help on bird flu, new airport

New Delhi : The Planning Commission Wednesday approved a plan outlay of Rs.116 billion for West Bengal next fiscal, even as Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and sought his help to check the outbreak of bird flu in the state and for a new airport near Kolkata.
25 mn Indian women suffer from fibroids: study

New Delhi : An estimated 25 million women in India are affected with fibroids, which is increasingly becoming common as many of them marry late, resulting in late pregnancies, or are red meat eaters and overweight, according to a latest study.
The research, which took 16 years to complete, also found that the problem transfers from a woman to her blood relative.
